Getting divorced? We know you're feeling beat up, and it's time for a new you. In today's Modern Divorce episode, Billie Tarascio talks with Tracy Pleschourt, the Self-MadeU.com life coach who helps people lose weight by finding the WHY that holds them back.

Tracy unwraps some of the keys to weight loss that aren't about calorie counting.  You'll find out how determining your insulin resistance is the first step! Tracy has walked the path herself, and now teaches the mindset techniques you'll need to manage your mind and overcome any obstacle, including overeating, over drinking, time management, and more.

Her website offers a free two week plan to kickstart your new you.

Billie Tarascio: [00:00:00] Hello and welcome to the Modern Divorce podcast. Welcome back. It's been a very busy season and today I've got a guest for you that you are going to love. When I saw her come across our screen and I saw the topic. It is something that every single one of us is going to be interested in. We're talking about a weight loss coach, a life coach who focuses on.

Weight loss, which is something you know, relevant to, I think all of us and we're talking to Tracy Pleshcourt, Tracy, how are you doing

Tracy Pleschourt: today? [00:01:00] I'm doing great. Thank you so much for having me.

Billie Tarascio: Absolutely welcome to the show. First, can we talk about how you got into this very cool niche of weight loss coaching?

Tracy Pleschourt: You bet.

Yeah. Um, well, I'll just be really open and honest and say I had a lot of weight to lose. And so I, um, I'm a, a life coach first and foremost, but I was also certified in weight loss. And so I took what I learned and applied it to myself. And a lot of people took notice and. I just started to really see a trend in that started to be the topic of conversation.

You know, it was, um, I have a passion for women owned businesses and purpose driven businesses. So I, I talked a lot about that and I helped women create these businesses, but the minute I started losing weight and people started to take notice that started to be kind of the topic at hand. And so, um, I have a[00:02:00]

fascination around metabolic science. And so I coupled what I know to be true in regards to metabolic science, metabolic flexibility with weight loss. And then on top of that, I layered in the mental and emotional management. So my company is self-made you focuses on like this holistic transformation, it's mental, emotional, physical, and metabolic.

And all of that creates a longer and happier and healthy life. So total transformation. And, uh, and I will just say the Genesis of it started with my own weight loss struggles.

Billie Tarascio: Wow. Okay. I want to talk about each of these layers in each of these pieces. Um, but I can't help it be very interested in this metabolic piece, but can we talk about that?

What does that even mean?

Tracy Pleschourt: Yeah, so, you know, metabolic health is really like the core of everything, you know, all of our [00:03:00] systems, our hormonal systems, our cardiovascular system, you know, it all boils down to how healthy are we at a metabolic level. And that gets overlooked when people are trying to lose weight, we get so caught up and, you know, just the pounds that we see displayed on a scale and we lose sight of what's really going on.

So I tell my clients we are going to get to the root cause. And from a metabolic standpoint, the root cause of being overweight is absolutely an insulin issue. So your blood glucose is too high. Your insulin is too high. Most people who are struggling with their weight, they are insulin resistant. A lot of people don't even know what that means.

So that's kind of our first step I teach people and what that means and how do you combat that? And, um, so I teach my clients like how to take their blood, how to understand what, what they're seeing from the results. And [00:04:00] I will say we're kind of on the cutting edge when it comes to weight loss, but there are so many doctors clinics that are following suit.

And so monitoring your blood glucose is probably the one thing that you can do that is so eye eye-opening and it has such a touch point on every area of your health. And it's been overlooked for all these years. You know, every other weight loss company out there will tell you, count the points, count the macros, and I'm telling, you know, pay attention. can see if you're insulin sensitive or insulin resistant based on where your blood glucose is hitting on a daily basis. So,

Billie Tarascio: wow oh, okay. All right. So I know a little bit about this because my mother hired. Functional medicine person, and she's not at all overweight at all, but she started measuring her blood glucose throughout the day.

And she started watching. That's what this person told her to do. How does my body respond to [00:05:00] different foods? Um, so is that kind

of what you're talking about?

Tracy Pleschourt: Yeah. Functional medicine is really all about getting to the root cause and being really proactive about your health, where Western medicine tends to treat symptoms and.

Yeah, you will find a lot more functional medicine practitioners leaning into, you know, proactively monitoring your data, which would start with blood glucose. You know, of course, monitoring your weight on a scale, which most people have got that under control. But. It's really, it's getting to the root cause and yeah, understanding, you know, how you are reacting metabolically to the things that you're eating.

And it's actually not just the things you're eating, it's, you know, your environmental exposure to what stress does to your blood glucose that has a, has an effect on your insulin. Insulin is a hormone. A lot of people don't even know that, you know, we think. Insulin. We think of diabetes, right? It's an, it's an injected hormone, [00:06:00] but it's, if your pancreas isn't creating insulin properly, then it will be problematic and it will show up not only in.

Obesity, but it'll show up in chronic illnesses and diseases. So we focus on longevity. Yes. I hook everybody with the promise of fast and forever weight loss, but that becomes the by-product quite honestly, because people start living longer and happier lives because we're also focusing on the mental piece.

Yeah. I

Billie Tarascio: mean, when you think about it, the scale, your weight is a lagging indicator, which means it shows up after you do all these things. And in my business, I'm always looking for like, well, what are the predictive indicators that we're on the right track and what are the lagging indicators? So if I can look at the, you know, the bottom line at the end of the month, I can be like, oh, we did well look at the money in the bank, but that only happens because of all of these other.

Indicators that happened a lot earlier. And if [00:07:00] you're measuring your insulin, then you know, like on a much faster level, how, how is my body reacting? I have to also think that if you are looking at what your body is doing after you've eaten something, you might feel differently than, oh, I just had too many calories.

Tracy Pleschourt: Exactly. Yeah. I tell people. All the time that, you know, we don't necessarily learn through words. We learned through experiences. So that's why it's so important for me to like, hold the hand of my clients and show them through the experience of how this all works. I could talk till I'm blue in the face, but until they actually can see the data and see, you know, results that they're creating it, doesn't always.

Create a sustainable results. So that's why we believe so much in data. I, I tell, you know, I'm always saying we make our decisions off of data, not drama, and constantly listening to the chatter of like [00:08:00] your primitive brain it's full of drama. Right. And so I get to the facts, let's make our decisions based on data.

It makes a whole lot more sense.

Billie Tarascio: So, um, are you using an app and is the, is the data that you're looking at? Only your blood glucose level or what else are you looking at?

Tracy Pleschourt: Yeah, um, we do have an app and so anybody can download our free app. It's um, the self-made U app. And it's the letter U not Y O U. Um, and yeah, you can track your blood glucose.

We teach you how to, you know, work a blood glucose, monitor a glucometer, um, that also measures your ketones. So we're tracking both glucose and ketones. We also track something called autophagy, which is kind of the repair, the detoxification that's happening at a cellular level. We can understand where we're at in that.

I also ask my clients to track their weight every day. They also make decisions ahead of time about what it is that they're going to eat and how long they're [00:09:00] going to, um, extend the time in between their meals, which is also known as fasting. So we track a lot of data so that we can. Informed decisions about our next step.

So it's quite simple. I know I'm like throwing out all sorts of jargon to you right now, but, um, we, we really do deliver it in a very simple way. So people feel more equipped and less overwhelmed.

Billie Tarascio: Okay. So this is sounding like ketosis.

Tracy Pleschourt: You know, the ketogenic diet is definitely a diet that we believe in.

Um, but I will say that there's a lot of variations of keto and you have to be, you have to understand that. The diet that we subscribe is, um, it's a moderate protein, it's a low, uh, refined carb. We want all the carbs to come from, primarily vegetables, some fruits, and then it is a higher in good fats. So, [00:10:00] um, we teach you, you know, what are the barriers to weight loss often it's

hormonal, which is your insulin, insulin resistant. Often it can be toxicity. It can be the bad oils that we're consuming. And I will say that if you're not paying attention and you're just diving into a ketogenic diet, and you think that you can eat all fats, any fats you're going to probably consuming some pretty toxic oils.

And you gotta know that. So, um, yes, to answer your question, it is a ketogenic diet. We are really focused on getting your ketones up, but we also teach, you know, variation and the, and the importance of that. So, um, when you're, when you are creating ketones, you are becoming a fat burner. You are using the stored body.

Um, as your source of energy versus the sugars that you're consuming. So that is important, but you want to have metabolic flexibility. So you want. [00:11:00] Be able to burn sugar and fat. And so we focus on kind of variation and, and, um, not just finding the one thing that you stick to every single day, day in and day out.

Billie Tarascio: Okay. Um, all right, so you've done an amazing job describing the metabolic factor. Talk to me about the emotional.

Tracy Pleschourt: Yeah yeah. So that's like, that's like my heart and soul right there. Um, I, I think not unlike every other, you know, human being out there, we all want to know what the actions are.

You know, tell me what that silver bullet tell me what to do. And, um, you know, I'm no different, but what I have come to learn and what I have come to believe is that your actions come stem from a feeling. You know, you are only doing something or not doing something because it's being driven from an emotion from the vibration going through your body.

And that stems from what you're thinking. So there's a formula. I just call it [00:12:00] our mind math it's whatever you're thinking is generating. Whatever you're feeling, which is, which has you doing or not doing something. So yes, I give all of my clients, the actions that they can be taking, but I wouldn't, I would be doing them a disservice if I didn't show them how that formula actually plays out.

So they can really fully understand how they're currently creating their own reasons through a think feel, act cycle. And it's very unintentional. It's very subconscious, but I can show them, you know, I can make it very visual for them. And then the good news is, is that proves that you actually have control.

You can actually be intentional with your thinking and feeling, which will organically have you in action. Getting the results that you are very intentionally desiring. So. Very simple framework that we teach so that they feel like they do have control at a mental and [00:13:00] emotional level. And then the metabolic science of it all.

We, um, we try to teach that and in kind of digestible chunks and in framework and in the simplest form. Um, but yeah, the heart of it all. Is really managing your mind. I, I tell my clients that they have a, they have a primitive mind. That's always running in the background trying to keep them safe. But the truth of it is, is there's not a lot of danger out there that we need to be operating from a primitive state any longer.

And so I teach them how to strengthen their prodigy brain and that's their prefrontal cortex. That's the decision making part of your brain. And if you are running off of default. And running off of those primitive brain thoughts, you're probably very reactive and we all know being reactive and having knee-jerk responses doesn't end well.

And so I teach my clients how to respond. You're never going to get rid of that primitive brain. It's always going to be there. It's always going to be giving you those thoughts, but instead of reacting from it, [00:14:00] you're going to learn how to respond to it. And that's the difference. It's very intensive.

Billie Tarascio: Wow. Okay. So how long does the process usually take? Cause I, I mean, you're talking about changing a lot of fundamental things, so

Tracy Pleschourt: it takes our program takes six months. So you, you go through. The fat adapted intensive, um, which takes we'd go five weeks, very intense, where you become fat adapted. You're doing all the things to become a fat burner versus a sugar burner.

The next five weeks, it's an intensive, that's very focused on the metabolic science and then the remaining 16 weeks is mastering all of these concepts and really building them into your lifestyle. By that point, once you've gotten through those first 10 weeks, You understand that the benefits of building out these protocols, these eating plans far in a way that, I [00:15:00] mean, the weight loss becomes a by-product.

These are the people that are like coming to us with the brain fog and low energy and moodiness. And, you know, they know their hormones are out of balance. And so all of that starts to really kind of level out. And they're thinking in a, in a much more clear way that. They're starting to recognize that there's more to life than just fixating on weight-loss that'll happen.

But that's where it gets really fun, because those are the kinds that are like starting to create things that were never even on their radar, you know? And then again, being a life coach, like that's what gets me jazzed up. It's like, alright, you know, what else can you create for yourself? So that's the fun part.

It's, it's always super exciting to watch people lose the weight and have these physical transformations, but I will say the mental and emotional transformation is like, that's what I'm in it for. And it's, there's just nothing like nothing out there like that. And, um, so it's very [00:16:00] rewarding.

Billie Tarascio: Um, okay. How many people, uh, stick with it the whole six months and how many people drop out?

Tracy Pleschourt: I, you know what, so we've been running the same self-made mind and body program for two years. I don't think we've ever had anybody drop out. And in fact, we have a membership that once you get through the six months, um, you can become a member and we focus on. Topics like for the month of February, we're focusing on self-love and um, so they get lessons and they get ongoing coaching.

And her retention rate is well over 50%. So we have, we have a pretty high retention rate, which is, and I will say that the business quite honestly has been built off of referrals. So even though, you know, we do all the normal marketing. All other small businesses do, majority of our growth has come from referrals.

So I think that, that says a lot, [00:17:00] um, out of that,

Billie Tarascio: well, I mean, your people are walking billboards, right? When their friends and family see them, they're like, how did you, how did you do this? So that's fantastic. Okay. Um, how, how much

does it cost?

Tracy Pleschourt: So the program, the six month program is 33 97, 3,397. And then we work with our clients on payment plans and things like that.

Um, yeah, and they have a workbook and then they have the app. Um, and then they have, uh, ongoing coaching with me. We have a clinical psychologists on staff. So they get access to her as well as lots of assessments. Um, so they really, I will say what they walk away with is a solid understanding of themselves.

You know, the curriculum becomes themselves mentally, physically, emotionally metabolically. And so they feel so empowered to create. You know, so much more for themselves outside of even [00:18:00] weight loss. And so we get, um, clients with pretty significant professional results. Um, and that's, that's fun to see. So it's hard to put, you know, the value of the program.

I feel far outweighs the cost of it.

Billie Tarascio: I agree with you. I also think that. Um, in order to make this type of transformation, you have to be kind of ready to make that investment. And so there's something that is very real about sacrificing and deciding I'm going to spend my money this way, because I'm worth it versus, you know, I I'm going to spend my money a different way because that's more important.

So yeah, it makes sense. You know, you wouldn't want it to be. I feel like that's a very good price for what you're offering

Tracy Pleschourt: and you know what, Billy, I think something that's so interesting is that we've given them. A handful of scholarships. Um, because you know, I, [00:19:00] um, I focused on teachers for a while, especially during the, you know, the pandemic primarily, you know, those, those people were so dramatically impacted and they don't always have the same kind of um, income earning capabilities. So I focused on teachers and we gave away scholarships. It was so fascinating to me though, when you don't have kind of the, you know, you, you haven't put in the money, the investment, and it doesn't feel a little painful. It's so fascinating how those are the people that usually don't give it as much effort.

You don't, they don't put as much value because they didn't have skin in the game. And so, um, That isn't the reason why we've chosen the price. We've chosen the price because it's, you know, it's 10 times that in value, but I will say to your point that, um, you gotta make sure people have some skin in the game and there's, there's not only a financial [00:20:00] investment.

There's a time investment to, you know, there's an emotional investment. You're this is, this is facing your fears. Quite honestly, it's facing your fears. This is. A lot of us have spent our whole life running from it's like you hit that brick wall and it comes you're face-to-face with it. But I will say you've got a life coach.

You've got a mental health professional. You've got advisors. Every single one of our clients gets a one-to-one mentor. That has also been through the program. So there's a ton of support, so it doesn't have to be scary. Um, it's really, really exciting. So, yeah.

Billie Tarascio: That's fantastic. So how can people find you because I'm sure that our listeners want

your sign up.

Tracy Pleschourt: Yeah. So if you go to my website, self-madeU.com. And then the letter u.com. You can sign up for our free program. It's called project new you it's, it's a kickstart to the [00:21:00] weight loss. It's a prerequisite to our six month program. It's totally free. So it tells you exactly how to download our app, how to get started with that free program.

Um, that takes about a week to two weeks to go through. Um, and that gives you a really good sense of, you know, if you're a good fit for this kind of a program, so that's totally free. So yeah, you get all the instructions about how to download the app and what the codes are. The app is on every. App store out there.

Um, but yeah, that would probably be the best way.
